I'm Afraid

Lately, this phrase has been echoing around me more than ever before. In conversations, in hushed admissions, in the decisions shaping people’s lives.

"I think I need to sell my apartment. I’m afraid of the instability here, so I’m going back to London."

"I need to buy an apartment because I’m afraid to leave too much money in the stock market."

"I’m moving back to New York from Florida because I’m afraid of another hurricane season. We can't even get homeowners insurance."

"I’m taking a job in Florida because my family needs more space, and I’m afraid we’ll be priced out of the suburban market here."

"I’m leaving LA for New York because I’m afraid. I can’t do another wildfire."

"I’m looking for an apartment in New York because I’m afraid for my daughter. It’s no longer safe for trans people in Texas—even in Austin."

In the last two weeks, I’ve played therapist more than real estate agent. And honestly? That’s fine. Because at its core, my job isn’t just about property—it’s about people finding home.

A place that feels safe. A place that shelters more than just their belongings.

But making decisions out of fear? That’s never easy. The uncertainty we’re living through right now—it’s not sustainable. Humans crave stability. Even the stock market, with all its data models and algorithmic precision, is still a reflection of human emotion.

And right now, the market, like the world, feels unsteady. I understand the need for change. But change without real leadership, without a clear, well-thought-out plan, is chaos, and chaos is exhausting.

This is not a dig at one person. This is a call for all those in positions of power, whether in the public or private sector, to step up right now and start leading with optimism and strength, not turmoil and fear.

I want to believe this is just turbulence—that we’ll regain our footing, find our rhythm again, and move forward toward something better, something steadier—if not for me, then for our four children, who are just starting their own journeys into the world.

I hope.

I have to.

Let's do this-
